Why is the walk different this year?
Like everyone else, we've had to change the way we do things due to coronavirus. With so much uncertainty, we felt that a physical walk wouldn't be the right fit for 2020. But it's not all doom and gloom! Taking the walk online means we're able to partner with wonderful interstate organisations and make this a truly national event - all while ensuring the safety of our staff, volunteers and community.
Why is Walk for Epilepsy happening over 25 days in October rather than on one day like previous years?
We wanted to bring attention to a sobering statistic - that 1 in 25 people are affected by epilepsy. Extending the event over 25 days also gives our walkers more time to achieve their goals and brings our ambitious collective goal within reach-to complete a total of just over 25,000 kilometres. That's equivalent to the entire length of Australia's coastline!
How far do I have to walk?
That's entirely up to you! If you're only able to walk limited distances, no problem-set yourself a realistic and safe goal. If you're looking for a challenge, increase the distance to help bring us closer to our 25,000km goal.
Can I walk or run anywhere?
Yes. Where and how you do the distance is completely up to you. Just be safe, follow all local rules and guidelines and ensure you practice social distancing.
How do I register?
Easy! Just head to our home page, click on register and follow the prompts
Can I create a team?
You sure can! Simply follow the steps in the registration process to create a team. Working together for a shared goal is a great way to add extra kilometres to our target, so if you have a group of family, friends or colleagues, why not take part together
I have registered as a team, do we need to physically walk together?
The reality of COVID-19 means that gathering together is much more difficult than it previously would have been. If your local regulations allow you to exercise together - for instance, if you live in the same household, then you can choose to walk together or separately. Each person's contribution will be added to the total whether you walk together or independently, so the most important thing is to make sure you stay safe, follow the rules and practice social distancing.

Fundraising can be a daunting task, but remember that you have the power to make a real difference! We've put together a list of tips and tricks for getting started, which you can find here!
Are donations tax-deductible?
All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible in Australia
How do I connect my tracking device?
Your profile page includes your personal distance tally so you can track your distance towards your target. This is a great way to keep your friends updated on your workouts!
If you track your workouts with Fitbit or Strava your distances will automatically add to your tally.
Follow these steps to track your KMs automatically:
- Download the Fitbit or Strava and set up your account
- Log in to your ‘Walk for Epilepsy’ profile page / account.
- Under the heading ‘Connect your preferred Fitness app’, click your chosen app.
- Follow the prompts to connect your account
- When you next work out, select ‘start your workout’ in the app on your phone. Once you end your workout, save your workout and your distance will be published to the tally on your page the following day.
If you have synced your app already but it is not working, please log in and re-connect it.
When using Fitbit, you must ‘start’ an activity and save it. Your daily steps will not automatically add to your page. If you are having issues, try syncing through BOTH your Fitbit and the Fitbit app on your smartphone.
Your tally will be updated each day with the previous day’s distances.

What if I don’t have a smartphone or the app isn’t working?
No problem! You always have the option to manually add your kilometres.
- Log in to your Walk for Epilepsy account and select ‘My Fitness Activity’
- Under ‘Add activity’, enter the date and distance
- The number of kilometres will now appear on your fundraising page!
Will I receive a race bib?
We'll be providing digital bibs that you can print out and show off when you’re out walking
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes, all participants who upload their results will receive a digital certificate
Corporate Matched Giving?
Many employers support their employees’ charitable efforts through their matched-giving program. Even if an employer does not have a matched-giving program, they may still be willing to support your challenge and donate to you. All you have to do, is ask!
