Why I'm Running Solo in The Great Wheelbarrow Race

Hi, my name is Bodie Bloore, and I’ve decided to take on a challenge that’s bigger than myself.

I will be running 140km from Mareeba to Chillagoe (Far North Queensland) with a wheelbarrow to raise awareness and funds for epilepsy—a condition I was recently diagnosed with.

Epilepsy affects 1 in 25 people, yet so many of those living with it feel unseen, unheard, and uncertain about their future. That’s why I’m supporting the Epilepsy Foundation—to help bring hope, answers, and support to those who need it most.

This condition turned my world upside down. One moment, I was healthy and thriving, working towards my fitness and career goals. The next, everything changed. I lost my driver’s license, my independence, and the certainty that I could continue the life I had built.

Then came months of testing. Doctors couldn’t explain why I kept having seizures. At first, they told me it wasn’t epilepsy. But after a 12-hour brain wave test with my specialist in Cairns, they finally uncovered the truth—I had epilepsy.

I’m one of the lucky ones. With life-changing medication, I’ll soon regain my ability to drive and regain a sense of normality.

But for many others, their journey is filled with fear and endless uncertainty. Some people live with epilepsy that can’t be properly managed with medication. Others suffer frequent seizures, waiting years for a diagnosis. Too many people feel alone, scared, and without answers.

That’s why I’m pushing myself to run this 140km. To shine a light on epilepsy. To raise funds for research, treatment, and support. And to stand with those whose voices often go unheard.

I hope that as I take on this challenge, you’ll stand with me by making a donation.

Every dollar helps fund life-changing research, improve treatments, and offer hope to those living with epilepsy.

Together, we can make a difference.

Thank you for your support—it truly means the world.
