I'm fundraising for further research into epilepsy

One in 26 people have epilepsy. I am 1 in 26.
Every 33 minutes someone else gets diagnosed with epilepsy. I want to hit the target of raising $3300.
Born with epilepsy, but not diagnosed until I was 33, it took years of testing before I was eventually deemed non-responsive to medication. 30% of us are. 
It's OK to have epilepsy, but it's not OK that so many of us keep it secret. It is the second most common brain disorder, behind dementia and ahead of MS, Parkinson's, Cerebral Palsy, MND. But we don't talk about it. 

Let's start the conversation, break the stigma, and with more research we can find more ways to help us manage it.

Being non-responsive to medication was a massive kick in the guts. After all the years trying to work out what was causing my seizures, then came the news that nothing could be done... but... my neurologist at Monash told me about a medical trial at St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne.

What did I honestly have to lose? I was unable to drive, taking three types of medication a day to minimal effect, and my independence was a shadow.

The trial started with an operation.

For the surgery a piece of my skull was removed, and a devise put in (see the image gallery).  Another device (the pump) was put in my abdomen. This is filled with gas and liquid medication. The two devices are connected by a tube which runs under my skin. Now my medication goes directly into the fluid around my brain rather than being diluted through the digestive system. For me, it has resulted in significant reduction in seizures.

I can't tell you when my last seizure was, but it was in 2023. I just don't look back. I can now drive again. (see the pic of me at VicRoads - woohoo!)
